Trivia[]
Originally, this was the last level of Candy Crush Saga upon official release.
It was an excruciatingly difficult and the known bad-boy level. This level, at one time, was arguably more notorious than level 147 ever was.
The original version had 52 moves and 65 double jellies. The choice of 65 was due to the level's number.
Moreover, the mechanics of the game was very different than the first major nerf of this level. Candies matched immediately whenever they form a matching configuration, even mid-air. This greatly favored simple matches over matches that create special candies.
Many people truly deemed the level impossible and gave up here. When people spoke of hard levels, they only spoke of this level.
This level is showcased in slot 12 of GameSpot's list of "The 12 Most Frustrating Video Game Challenges Ever" due to the pre-nerf. The site's consensus reads, "Candy is supposed to be fun. Candy is supposed to be a treat. But Level 65 of Candy Crush Saga is routinely described by players as quite the opposite to that".
However, this level has gone through several nerfs, and although it has retained some of its former difficulty in removing some of the corner or top jellies, it is no harder than a slightly-on-the-hard-side level, and no longer stands out like it used to. This level, however, may still take a few tries, but it has been diluted to a hundredth of its original difficulty.
Further alterations have been made to the board structure on the HTML5 version after the Flash version stopped having new episodes, by adding/removing holes and unofficially introducing blocker combinations. They were all of a similar difficulty to the last Flash version.
Finally, this level was completely redesigned after a mass redesign affecting the first 200 levels. It has became a tutorial-like order level demonstrating the Coconut Wheel.
This level, in its historic original form, was continually referenced during the lifetime of Candy Crush Saga.
A limited-edition T-shirt was sold acknowledging the major nerf of Level 65, on November 23. This is the only nerf that has garnered such attention to warrant official merchandise for that level.
Level 430 of Dreamworld and level 3533 are as difficult as the pre-nerf 65 and have the same shape as this level.
"54 million of you beat the beast that is level 65" - this information was showed in an announced video on Facebook on Sunday, 22 March 2020.
Nowadays, this level is easy enough that you would never have known that it used to be insanely hard.
This was the second level which the level number is referenced within the level itself using elements, as there are 65 spaces and jellies. The previous one was level 50 (50 moves). Later, level 20 belonged to this criteria with 20 moves, after the phase-out of timed levels.
Over the course of 3 nerfs and 4 buffs, this level went from extremely hard to very easy. Currently, its difficulty is easy.
This is the first level with coconut wheels, and so far the only two-digit level with them.

Original version of level 65. It was notorious for being nearly impossible to complete, and many players quit Candy Crush Saga altogether believing this level was impossible. The game mechanics at that time was also more difficult, and boosters were almost nonexistent.
